Sister Amy Wright

We want our children to believe in Jesus Christ, belong to Jesus Christ and His Church through covenant, and strive to become like Jesus Christ. How do we do this? As a parent, I have shared scriptures, read scriptures, had "home church," prayed, brought children to church, worshiped in the temple, paid tithing, and shared my life as a living testimony so that my nine children would know the gospel. My greatest desire is for us to be an eternal family....and maybe one day it will happen. I love Jesus and want all of us to be together with Him.
I know that we can make a lasting impression on young children, helping them steer their lives towards Christ and the light. Sister Amy Wright’s son experiences this as a second grader. He was voted to be the “class Judge.” To make it official, a “real judge” from the Utah second court placed his robes on the young boy, and this ignited his desire to study law from the peace giver Himself, and the laws of the land.
Time passed, and Amy Wright’s son, now a man, found himself in a room at the top law school being asked this question: ‘Where do you derive your moral compass?’
Her son responded with, “If all of humanity abided by the teachings of Jesus Christ in the Sermon on the Mount, the world would be a better, more peaceful place.” With those words, he knew that no one in the secular world would accept that answer—but he was wrong! He was accepted, and as they toured the school, they found banners and inscriptions carved in stone that referenced attributes from the Sermon on the Mount.
For God’s children, this is the sermon that is the golden ticket to Christ! Sister Wright states,
“We want our children to believe in Jesus Christ, belong to Jesus Christ and His Church through covenant, and strive to become like Jesus Christ.”
There are three key steps:
First, believe in Jesus Christ.
Second, belong to Jesus Christ and His Church.
Third, become like Jesus Christ.
First, believe in Jesus Christ. Do as Peter did when Christ asked him to follow Him! “Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.” President Nelson said, “Faith in Jesus Christ is the foundation of all belief and the conduit of divine power.”
How are we teaching young children to believe in Christ? Sister Wright asks these questions:
Do they hear testimonies of Jesus Christ and His gospel?
Do they see reverential, worshipful images of His ministry and godhood?
Do they feel and recognize the Holy Ghost testifying of His reality and divinity?
Do they know of His message and mission?
These are my new checkpoint questions. I need to have these in places around the house to help the family remember Christ!
Second, belong to Jesus Christ and His Church. Be baptised, receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Pray, read scriptures, serve others, pay tithing, and attend the temple. Your life will glow with Christ’s Light!
Third, become like Jesus Christ. This is a lifelong goal. It takes the everyday work of the “Sunday School” answers. It takes day by day and line upon line to accomplish, but if you are focused on Christ and think, 'What would Jesus do?' Your direction to become like Him is headed in the direction of His light! As Jesus Christ becomes the focus of our lives, what we desire, and how we desire it, is forever altered.
“If we become casual in our discipleship of Jesus Christ, it could be catastrophic for our children.”
That helps to remind me to stay the course and to improve each day.
Jesus is not fictional, casual, simplistic, or a fantasy. Jesus is real, powerful, and mighty to save us all because we are worth saving!
